Persu Collection "Hustle" Hat

From ideation to execution, the creation of Persu Collection was not an easy road. There were many times where I had self-doubt, and fear that my dreams and goals were impossible, and will ultimately result in failure. After just the idea of the Persu bag was conceived, I came across a quote that caught my eye and wrote it on the mirrored closet in my bedroom. The quote read:

"Remember your dreams and fight for them. You must know what you want from life. There is just one thing that makes your dream become impossible: the fear of failure." - Paulo Coehlo

Over time the quote blended in with my bedroom surroundings but I started to notice that every time I needed motivation, the words of Paulo Coehlo would appear again to help bring me to the finish line. It helped me take action on my goals, including
an action as simple as writing the goal down, which ultimately became Persu.

Today, I continue this entrepreneurship journey to "hustle" toward all the big dreams and goals I have. As the years have flown by and I've moved out of that mirrored-closet bedroom, I realized that I needed yet another dose of motivation to keep me on track. So, I created this hat to represent all the goals that myself and others are working toward, and the motivational intention behind them.

This hat initiates the first and most important action for achieving your goals:
writing it down. The "HUSTLIN' FOR" tag inside the hat is your private place to write down what you "hustle" for - whether it's breaking the glass ceiling in your career, providing for your family, or finally starting that side hustle you've always wanted. Every time you wear or see this hat, the message of what it represents for you should remind you to keep going, because while dreams are free, the hustle is sold separately.

Thank you so much for supporting my brand, my business, and my dreams. You are all a big part of my motivation and I look forward to happily continuing to hustle for, and with all of you.

Founder of Persu Collection

PERSU is in a fashion-tech accelerator! :D

Posted by Stephanie Su on

Hi Everyone!

It's so hard to believe we are already in October! I've been a little off the map because I'm excited to share with you that I was accepted into a fashion tech accelerator program this summer!

The program is called GRID110 and it is an accelerator in partnership with LA Mayor Garcetti designed to help early stage fashion tech startups while activating the DTLA startup ecosystem. I'm SO HAPPY to be in this program and am one of the 5 companies chosen to be in the 2016 cohort! I am especially grateful to be given this chance because as a solo entrepreneur, my chances of success are a bit tougher (you learn fast why having a partner and team is crucial). But they ended up choosing me to participate even though I'm not quite as far along as the other companies!

As a part of the program, I receive free office space in DTLA (for 6 months) along with in-house mentors, lunch & learns with various business/startup experts, and dinners with each of our advisors. I am halfway through the program and will present my progress to the board at the end of January 2017. I've already learned a TON so far (even things that don't relate to my business such as what ACTUALLY goes in to raising from VCs) through our weekly meetings where each company shares their progress and current challenges in their business, so we can all learn and help each other. :)

Here is a little visual tour of my office and accelerator:

Pitching for an investment in Taipei

Posted by Stephanie Su on

Hi Everyone!

2015 flew by so quickly, it's hard to believe it's already March of 2016! In my last update in October, I was in Taipei, Taiwan pitching PERSU to a group of investors. It was a short trip of mostly meetings and with a little bit of exploration/family time.

Here is a glimpse of my trip I recorded for you guys!

Unfortunately, the end did not result in an investment. :( I still keep in touch with one of the investors so I'm crossing my fingers that I may get an investment in the future! In the meantime, I'll continue to work on PERSU and grow slowly, but surely. :)

Thank you for all of your support!

Xoxo,

Steph

Life after Kickstarter

Posted by Stephanie Su on

Hello!

It's been awhile since I've posted an update so I wanted to share a bit about what I've been up to with PERSU after completing fulfillment!

Since then, things have slowed down and I took up a part-time job to supplement my living expenses. And, I've been working on designing a new bag! However, due to the cost of production, the Kickstarter funds covered just enough for the production and shipping of the Jessica, Tom, and Sol bags without enough funding for additional designs. So, over the past couple of months I've been brainstorming options in order to receive more funding. While I am considering a second Kickstarter campaign, I've been given an opportunity to pitch potential investors in Taiwan! This week I flew to Taipei, Taiwan to pitch PERSU COLLECTION!

I'm still currently traveling and will let you know how the meetings go! *crossing my fingers*

Thanks for following along on my journey! :)

Xoxo,

Steph

The Sol bags have arrived! And, meet Sol himself in my latest vlog video!

Posted by Stephanie Su on

Hi Everyone!

The Sol bags have finally arrived to me and are being shipped out this week and next week! The Sol bags arrived on time at the end of June at the Oakland port but this time around the shipment took much longer to process before getting released to me. I learned that part of the reason is because this time, I did not have a full container so my overseas shipment had to go through two warehouses before being trucked to my home. And with the 4th of July holiday, the warehouses and trucking service were a bit backed up. But, luckily they arrived safely and I've already started putting the new hang tags I designed on them! :)

New hang tags will be on every Sol bag!

And, as you may know the Sol bag was named after VIP Kickstarter backer Sol Tran during my campaign. Last month I got the chance to meet Sol in person and take him to a couple of my favorite LA local fitness spots (minus Gloveworx because they were full but we are going to try again later!) and chat with him and his lovely girlfriend over lunch at True Food Kitchen. Interested in meeting Sol? Check out the latest vlog video below! (Please excuse that I was a sweaty hot mess in it) :D

Thanks again for staying with me on my journey! I will be posting recommended cleaning tips for your removable interior next!

Xoxo,

Steph
